Juniper Canyon’s Commitment to the Youth in Care Bill of Rights, and Solidarity with Breaking Code Silence

By the Juniper Canyon Leadership team

Juniper Canyon Recovery is a gender-specific treatment center for women aged 18-40 who struggle with substance abuse, trauma, unhealthy relationships, low self-esteem, anxiety, and depression. As a licensed residential treatment center, accredited by both the Joint Commission on Accreditation and the Outdoor Behavioral Healthcare Council, Juniper Canyon Recovery is committed to meeting the highest standards of safety, efficacy, and quality in order to provide the best possible care for our clients.

Juniper Canyon is an adult program specifically designed to help women recover from trauma, and even though the Youth in Care Bill of Rights is intended for youth, we want to show our support and commitment to upholding the standards laid out in the bill.  We hope to lead by example and encourage other programs to adopt the practices to keep our youth safe.

In accordance with the Youth in Care Bill of Rights, Juniper Canyon Recovery ensures that all clients have the right to physical well-being, including freedom from abuse and neglect in all forms. We have established strict policies to prevent physical, psychological, and sexual abuse, as well as neglect, exploitation, financial exploitation, and or excessive medication. Juniper Canyon Recovery also prohibits the use of aversive behavioral interventions and physical, mechanical, and chemical restraints or seclusion, and protects clients against unreasonable search and seizure.

In addition, Juniper Canyon Recovery supports the social and emotional well-being of all clients by prohibiting long periods of forced silence and/or restrictions on communication with staff, caregivers, child protective services, law enforcement, or advocates. The center provides sufficient educational and life skills training and allows clients reasonable daily access to the outdoors. Essential needs are met, and clients are provided with individualized and appropriate treatment that is culturally competent, trauma-informed, and most supportive of each individual’s personal liberty and development.

Juniper Canyon Recovery also ensures that clients are free from abusive, humiliating, degrading, or traumatizing treatment by staff or other clients. The center allows clients to report mistreatment anonymously without fear of reprisal, and provides access to a protection and advocacy agency.

Overall, Juniper Canyon Recovery is committed to meeting and exceeding the standards outlined in the Youth in Care Bill of Rights in order to provide the best possible care and support for its clients.

Juniper Canyon Recovery and Breaking Code Silence share a common goal: to support individuals struggling with mental health issues and empower survivors of abuse. Juniper Canyon Recovery for women does this by providing a gender-specific program for Women that combines Adventure Therapy with Residential Treatment. This creates a unique journey of healing and self-discovery for women to address trauma and mental health challenges, and to lead fulfilling lives.

In addition, Juniper Canyon is accredited by both the Joint Commission on Accreditation and the Outdoor Behavioral Healthcare Council, which ensures that the center and all our staff meet high standards of safety, efficacy, and quality. This aligns with the mission of Breaking Code Silence, which promotes evidence-based alternatives to the Troubled Teen Industry and works to raise industry standards.

Overall, Juniper Canyon supports the mission of Breaking Code Silence by providing a safe and supportive environment for women to heal and grow, and by meeting high standards of safety, efficacy, and quality. Both organizations are dedicated to empowering survivors of abuse and helping individuals lead healthy, productive lives.
